Queen's Birthday

Being an Aussie and a Scot to boot, I'm not much of a Royalist, but when it comes to the Queen you've got to hand it to her..... a hard-working, long lasting, multi-tasking working mother who has been to all the best parties and must have some really fascinating people on speed dial.

So to HRH I say thanks for the Long Weekend Holiday, although we folk in Sydney could have done without the British Weather!

There are some great opportunities to listen to super-interesting speakers this week in the neighbourhood...

Tonight sees the resumption for 2012 of the Walkie-Talkie sessions, otherwise known as the Potts Point Speaker's Forum, with not one, BUT TWO guest speakers: author / tv host Gretel Killeen plus barrister (and the original 'RAKE') Charles Waterstreet.

Later in the week, as part of the 2012 National Trust Heritage Festival, the life of electricity pioneer Violet McKenzie will be explored, in a talk at the Kings Cross Library.

A graduate of Sydney Girl's High, Violet McKenzie was Australia's first female electrical engineer (1923)
who opened The Wireless Shop in the Royal Arcade, founded the magazine Electronics Australia, instructed World War II servicemen in Morse code and was a pen pal of Albert Einstein....

just when we thought we had seen the last of it, the heavens open again and the prediction is for a wet month of March :( this pic has been doing the rounds today.

YES its BONDI BEACH but not as we usually know it... NO, that is NOT a waterfall water feature, and those stairs don't usually have a torrent of water flowing over them! nice use of the model to help out in emphasising the CRAZINESS of this day!
