Alan Ball at the Opera House

“Beauty is in the strangest places. A piece of garbage floating in the wind. And that beauty exists in America. It exists everywhere. You have to develop an eye for it and be able to see it.”

Academy and Emmy Award-winning writer/producer/director/playwright Alan Ball bares all this week in a promisingly scintillating chat with fan/tv host/comic Wil Anderson, at The Sydney Opera House.

Describing himself as "equal parts brutally cynical and achingly romantic" Ball could also add "wildly successful and uncompromisingly intelligent" to that list.

One of his first screenplays, American Beauty, picked up five Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay.

Next came Six Feet Under, a show about a family of funeral directors [not as dour as it sounds], which earned two Golden Globes and six Emmys.

Recently, Ball has created the sexy cult phenomenon True Blood and managed the seemingly impossible feat of retaining the true Sookie Stackhouse devotees whilst attracting scores of new fans.

Here's a little taste of Ball talking about his methodology....

Just $35 gets you a ringside ticket to listen to the chat between Wil and Alan. Or cough up a few bucks more for the Opera House food/drink/show combo....... either way, a good night out is guaranteed.
