the archibald

This Friday, April 15, sees the announcement of the winner of Australia's prestigious Archibald Prize at The Art Gallery of NSW.

Here's a sneak preview of some of the finalists, but you really need to head over to the Gallery to appreciate them in all their colourful, vibrant glory... and then you can be opinionated informed as the debate rages over the "people's prize"which is announced on 16 June.....

The Archibald Prize is one of Australia's oldest and most prestigious art awards. JF Archibald’s primary aims were to foster portraiture, support artists and perpetuate the memory of great Australians. Since its inception in 1921 the prize has been awarded to some of Australia’s most important artists, including George Lambert, William Dobell and Brett Whiteley.......

Really could think of no better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than a stroll through the Domain, a squizz at the Archibald and a sundowner at one of those fine establishments over at Woolloomooloo's Finger Wharf.
