Tomorrow night at midnight sees a rare blue moon come our way.... so make sure you have something out-of-the-ordinary planned....something that only happens "once in a blue moon"!
If you're looking for inspiration, there's a BLUE MOON MIDNIGHT SUPPER happening at the Sydney Observatory - a chance to do some serious moon/star gazing with like-minded folk.

friday!
It's Friday and I am so keen for this weekend. I'm not actually packing the car and heading out to the great unknown......but seriously half the fun is knowing that I could totally do that because IT'S FRIDAY!

St Vincent's College Fair
Its on this Sunday. Put it in the diary. There is usually a great selection of clothes and books at bargain prices and of course, the obligatory sausage sizzle and a few cake stalls!
be informed
There's a lot happening in the neighbourhood right now, with proposals for some pretty drastic measures aimed at the late-night traders in the area; stoushes over plans for a new playground in Fitzroy Gardens; and some very intractable positions that seem to leave businesses and residents on wildly opposing ends of the spectrum - debates rage on about noise, signage, dogs, kids and the dying art of retailing.
oh.... and it's election time!
A recently passed law means it's not possible for Clover Moore to hold dual roles as both Lord Mayor and the Member for Bligh [Ind] as she currently does. So after the upcoming city elections on September 8, we will most likely be heading again to the polls soon after for a state by-election [assuming the Lord Mayor stays put].
Its probably time to be informed, if you aren't already and its definitely time to
"meet the candidates".
TONIGHT at 6pm head along to St Vincents College for what may prove to be a very lively evening and one which you are guaranteed to leave more knowledgable about the issues, the solutions and the people who are keen to run this city.

Chez Dee
Open for only a few weeks Chez Dee is a brand new addition to the neighbourhood, but somehow this cosy cafe feels like it has been around forever, such is the welcome that envelopes you as soon as you step onto the front porch.
Nestled into the corner of Kellet and Ward Ave this cafe / bar / general store is bursting with bounty: from the fresh produce and flowers at the entrance; to the well stocked grocery selection; and the hearty breakfasts [perfect eggs] and healthy salads on offer for lunch.
And how about them cakes? if it's a mid afternoon pick-up you're looking for you can't go past the mouthwatering sweet selection, married with a seriously good coffee or something equally enticing from the Tea Crate tea range [yes tea is taken seriously in this neck of the woods].
Pick a cosy nook inside, or out on the terrace, or sit at the communal table.....lingering is welcomed and the wi-fi is free! Alternatively, you could head upstairs to the Morrocan themed lounging area and invite a few friends to join you for high tea or a glass or organic wine.
Byron Woolfrey is the guy behind this operation and he comes with some serious 'foodie' credentials, having worked at The Fish Shop and Mrs G's - both part of the Merivale Empire.
Byron is more than happy to chat about the benefits of biodynamic wine, the yummy produce in the grocery section, or what's on the menu for breakfast lunch or dinner. Chez Dee doesn't serve dinner on the premises, but they will happily pour you a wine while the kitchen staff package up something delicious for you to take home [pre-prepared!].
Housed in a fab corner terrace on what was the old TONIC Nightclub site, Chez Dee is the kind of corner store that every village needs - and even more importantly, Byron, wife Nicola and business partner Denise are really keen to be an integral part of the neighbourhood. Plans are afoot for High Teas to be held upstairs in the lounge area; for flower arranging classes and tea appreciation nights; and whispers of guest-chef dinners at the communal dining table.
Now THAT'S neighbourly!
Right now, Chez Dee has a rotating exhibition of local artists hanging on the wall, an eclectic bunch of diners, and some hip cats who are itching to play some jazz on a saturday afternoon...[yes!]
My advice? Head on down to Chez Dee before everyone else discovers this little gem... [if you ask real nice, Byron will tell you about the special offer for locals].

olympic beds
Athlete's sleeping quarters. Olympic Village. London 2012. Cute.
Of course, the village apartments will be sold post Olympic Fervour. I wonder if the bedding comes with it? Or maybe the athletes can take it home? Ideal for the kid's room.
