keep on truckin'

Late-night food trucks are coming to Sydney!....

City of Sydney has announced an  initial fleet of 10 food trucks will be hitting the streets over the next few weeks. The mobile eateries will be traveling to different locations in the city, with a mouth-watering array of food, chosen by a panel of food experts (ideal for the late-night munchies!)

And the good news is - this food looks mouthwateringly good and a VAST improvement on the late night fare we usually see around 2011.

The 10 successful operators will serve up exciting new food options including modern Australian from a former Tetsuya's sous chef, steamed yum cha, and veggie burgers from a truck shaped like a barn - complete with herb garden on the roof.

The operators chosen are:

    Agape
    Al Carbon
    Bite Sized Delights
    Burger Theory
    Cantina Mobil
    Eat Art Truck
    Let's Do Yum Cha
    Taco Truck
    Tsuru
    Veggie Patch

More than 30 hopeful operators lodged applications when the City sought expressions of interest last year, they went through a rigorous testing process that included looking at their business plans and background, and compliance with health and waste management codes. The last step was a taste test, where contenders had an hour to cook meals from their proposed truck menu and were judged on the taste, their overall concept and their complete menu.

Food Truck fact file :

*The City of Sydney has lodged development applications for 13 sites across the Local Government Area where the trucks can operate. Sites may include Belmore Park, Customs House Forecourt and Sydney Park.
* The 10 operators will be the only ones with permits to use the sites, and they will be required to move between locations during the night.
* Opening hours will depend on the location and when existing restaurants and cafes close. A smartphone app being developed by the City will soon provide a real-time map, links to food truck menus and other details.

This is a trial, that will run for a year - hope it works - its an exciting idea!

the gift that keeps on giving

Local store BLUEPRINT donated a hefty amount of it's Christmas takings, over 3 special shopping nights in December, to The Wayside Chapel - it amounted to the considerable sum of $7600, which I'm sure went a long way to making the infamous Wayside Christmas Lunch a huge success......

Graham from the Wayside was, understandably thankful to Margaret Butler and her Blueprint team...

"....there are people in the Kings Cross community that are so generous and so supportive of Wayside that it takes our breath away....the gorgeous crew from Blueprint Retail,  presented us with a cheque for $7600, which they raised from their 'Shop for Love' campaign and their 'Wrap for Love' gift wrapping service....our deepest thanks to them......."

Margaret has announced she will be extending her generosity to 2012, with proceeds from gift-wrapping year-round also going to the Wayside Chapel...

hello gang and happy new year! are you back into the swing of it yet, or are you still in holiday mode and making the most of the belated Sydney summer?

I have just had a swim in the most gloriously clean water in the harbour off Elizabeth Bay and was completely stoked to be joined by 2 playful fairy penguins! they were ducking and diving and making their little penguin noises.... too cute...

oh and did you know that a new cafe opened up over the xmas break? right there at Elizabeth Bay Marina - what a top spot for a coffee....

speaking of coffees.... the Deli at Potts Point had a queue a mile long on Xmas Day - being the only place open, they were a very popular destination for those among us who just can't go without!  The Deli also deservedly won the 2011 inaugural trophy for 'Best Christmas Display' awarded by the Potts Point Partnership and judged by celebrity design guru Amanda Talbot....

Last time I was in the the store, the trophy had pride of place on the counter and I'm sure Connie will keep it up for a bit longer...- she's pretty chuffed! so make sure you say "congratulations"!

camping = glamping

these tents make me want to go camping! or I do believe it's called "glamping" when you are incorporating a certain amount of style into the proceedings...

..... and really what could be more stylish than these FIELDCANDY tents!?

Limited edition, they're available now for world-wide delivery... definitely not on the cheap side, but really, how much would you pay just to see the expression on your fellow camper's faces when you unveil the "watermelon" ?!

if this doesn't make you want to get out of the city.... you're a hopeless cause !
